Chapter 7 describes the strategies to recognize and evoke change talk using an MI-consistent style, and it describes the core MI skills with clinical scenarios. This chapter also covers more strategies to respond to sustain talk. We also discuss the concept of equipoise and counseling with neutrality illustrated by a clinical scenario using the decisional balance. Furthermore, Chapter 7 discusses the transition process from evoking to planning. A personal reflection is also provided on the challenges of learning and practicing MI skills and techniques in the context of better understanding of sustain talk and change talk.
