Adrenocortical failure most commonly is due to a decrease in production of 1 or more adrenal hormones. Decreased production of adrenocortical hormones may be a consequence of adrenocortical disease or tropic hormone loss. This chapter has three goals: summarize adrenal disorders, identify adrenal emergencies, and describe gonadal disorders.
