Many factors contribute to overweight and obesity, particularly excess caloric intake and low physical activity. This chapter has four goals: identify overweight and obese patients, and identify their health risks, review the management of overweight and obesity, identify complications of bariatric surgery and understand management strategies, and recognize when nutritional supplementation is appropriate (for micronutrients and macronutrients) and the role of different routes of administration.
