ADHD/DAMP/ESSENCE should be seen as a deviation from normal psychomotor development that does not, however, inevitably bring about psychiatric problems. Psychiatric problems of different kinds, including depression, anxiety, conduct disorder, tics and autistic traits are nevertheless very common. Doctors and psychologists who are responsible for adequate measures being implemented in ADHD/DAMP and other ESSENCE must be well versed in these additional psychiatric problems. Also, doctors, child and adult specialists alike, need to be up-to-date and experienced in ADHD/DAMP when dealing with people with mental health problems of any type. ADHD/DAMP and other ESSENCE are clearly extremely common underlying conditions in a wide variety of mental health disorders.
