Several epidemiologic studies suggest an association of asthma with hormonal and metabolic disorders such as hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, Addison’s disease, and testosterone and vitamin D deficiencies. Several hypotheses have been proposed to explain these observed associations, but the precise pathophysiologic mechanisms underpinning these findings are not yet clarified.
