Case 49 introduces a 57-year-old man has been seeing his primary care physician for the past 4 years with concerns about recurrent leg pain. The patient reports that the calf pain has recently worsened and that he can only walk a short distance (about 100 yards) before the onset of pain. He reports that his reduced physical activity due to leg pain has led to an increase in his weight. He denies having calf pain at rest, and he reports no buttock or thigh pain. He has no difficulty maintaining an erection during intercourse.
