A 25-year-old skier fell on his left shoulder while negotiating the expert slopes. He immediately complained of severe pain in the area of his collarbone. All movements of his left arm are painful. He tries to avoid painful motion by holding his left arm close to his body and by supporting the left elbow with his right hand. He is transported by ski patrol to the base of the mountain and from there by his friends to the local emergency room.
