Case 34 introduces a 65-year-old man with a past medical history significant for alcohol abuse who presents to the emergency room with a history of vomiting a large amount of blood (hematemesis). He states that he was well until about 2 hours earlier, when he began experiencing mild nausea, which progressed over the next hour, with him then vomiting a large amount of blood into the toilet bowl.
