In this chapter, we first present a developmentally based assessment of mood disorder symptoms in young children (see Tables 3-1 and 3-2). We then describes mood disorders associated with medical illness and outline how to differentiate symptoms of a primary medical disorder that might mimic a mood disorder from de novo development of a mood disorder.
