Most Americans use dietary supplements, and men are especially likely to take supplements in order to achieve specific health goals. It is important to be able to assess quality and safety of supplements, as they are not as carefully monitored as pharmaceuticals. Some micronutrients can be useful when taken as a supplement in the prevention and treatment of conditions important in men’s health such as Cardiovascular disease and prostate health. B vitamins, Vitamin D, fatty acids, Magnesium, Calcium and Zinc are all discussed in relation to the studies showing benefit or risk of supplementation. Specific nutritional supplements are useful for BPH, Erectile Dysfunction, energy and physical performance and are often the subject of questions from male patients.
