Chapter 12 presents an overview of the prevalence, diagnostic features, and treatments of six sleep disorders that are highly prevalent in older adults, including insomnia, sleep breathing disorders, advanced sleep phase syndrome, restless leg syndrome, periodic limb movement disorder, and REM sleep behavior disorder, and how these may contribute topoor health outcomes, such as increased risk for falls, poor cardiovascular and cardiometabolic outcomes, elevated health care utilization and costs, and decreased quality of life.Ongoing and future venues for research are also discussed.
