This chapter will provide an overview of educational law, the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and school placement issues. The initial section will discuss The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), previously Public-Law 94-142, and its implications and effects on the provision of educational services for children with ASD and other developmental disorders. The subsequent section will review the IEP process and the types of questions that parents and professionals should be asking in order to provide appropriate services to the child with ASD. Finally, information regarding possible school placements, as well as examples of supplementary aids and services within general and special education are discussed.
