Chapter 9 discusses how the nervous system can be damaged by a wide range of toxins, and how the study of such damage delimits the scope of neurotoxicology. Many physical and chemical toxins penetrate the brain and cause adverse effects, and the selective vulnerability of the brain white matter allows the delineation of a division of neurotoxicology called toxic leukoencephalopathy.
