Adult neurogenesis in the adult hippocampus is partcularly interesting because of the role of the hippocampus in learning and memory. The new neurons are excitatory granule cells contributing to the mossy fiber connection between the dentate gyrus and CA3. The chapter describes neuronal development in the adult hippocampus.
