This chapter describes the principles of sedation and analgesia in the cardiac intensive care unit. The goals and assessment of sedation using the RASS score and CAM-ICU scoring systems are described. The pharmacology of sedative agents, analgesics, and hypnotics are outlined with clinical protocols given.
