This chapter discusses the critical care management of patients undergoing heart transplantation or lung transplantation. It considers in turn: recipient selection for heart transplantation, prognosis, postoperative care, allograft rejection, and endomyocardial biopsy in patients undergoing heart transplantation. It then discusses recipient selection for lung transplantation, prognosis, postoperative care, and allograft rejection in patients undergoing lung transplantation. It goes on to discuss issues particular to heart-lung transplantation and concludes with a section on induced immunosuppression
