This chapter concentrates on the anatomy and pathophysiology of the right heart and the management of right ventricular failure. The left ventricle is covered in Chapter 21. The right ventricle is notoriously difficult to assess and treat. Its interdependence with the left ventricle highlights the importance of its careful assessment and optimization in the compromised patient. The common valvular heart lesions are reviewed and their management discussed. Common arrhythmias in cardiothoracic intensive care and their management are also reviewed.
