This chapter describes the actions that nutrition workers can take to address the immediate and underlying causes of malnutrition during a child’s first 1000 days. These actions include Essential Nutrition Actions that describe the key nutrition and hygiene practices to promote, with special attention to women of reproductive age and children up to age 2 years, and how to integrate these actions into relevant contact points within existing health services and other sectors outside of health. It also includes recommended nutrition actions for addressing malnutrition throughout the life cycle and how to assess the needs and opportunities in each setting for helping people adopt these essential actions, as well as the importance of monitoring and evaluation.
