Generalized joint hypermobility (GJH), with and without musculoskeletal complaints, is frequently observed in adults, with a prevalence corresponding to 2-57% of the population depending on age, gender, and ethnic origin. Why some adults with GJH develop pain and hypermobility syndrome (HMS), while others do not, is not known. Detailed diagnostics are indicated based on clinical and genetic outcomes. Knowledge regarding characteristics of GJH, HMS, and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome-hypermobile type is presented in this chapter, in combination with neuromuscular and functional deficits seen in adults. Intervention studies for HMS are few, methodological flaws are evident, and randomized controlled trials are absent. However, common rehabilitation strategies for this condition are discussed in the chapter. Future studies using physiological training principles must carefully measure the effect of each of these principles, to increase the scientific knowledge and evidence in this area.
