Infection with Plasmodium vivax has traditionally be viewed as ‘benign’. However, severe and complicated infection has increasingly been recognized. Plasmodium vivax has the potential to relapse if the hypnozoite phase is not treated appropriately. A case of travel-related acute and relapsed infection is presented here and the management and diagnosis discussed.
