This chapter introduces the concepts of gastritis (acute and chronic), Helicobacter pylori and its investigation and management, peptic ulcer disease and its management (both historical and current techniques), and the latest guidelines on the management of non-variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding, benign gastroduodenal perforation, and gastric outlet obstruction. It then expands on other benign gastric pathology (e.g. acute gastric dilatation, gastric bezoars, gastric volvulus); and congenital gastric disorders (e.g. hypertrophic pyloric stenosis, gastric atresia, gastric duplication, microgastria, gastric teratoma) and their management.
