This chapter reviews recent advances in the assessment and management of AD patients including the clinical use of biomarkers to detect beta- amyloid deposition and neuronal injury. Recommendation for the use of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies is discussed. Clinical vignettes are provided to illustrate the various stages of AD dementia and to highlight amnestic versus non-amnestic presentations of this disorder. Overviews of emerging and future therapies along with results from recent trials involving investigational therapeutics are provided. We have reached the milestone of technological advances that can now detect preclinical AD which will ultimately lead to strategies that will modify or prevent clinical disease progression in the near future.
