Primary care and community nurses work with adults as individuals and as members of families. In their health promoting, curative, and palliative care roles they may have to work with adults who have single or multiple common adult health problems. Nurses and health visitors may be consulted directly about the problem or asked advice as to whether it requires medial assessment, or be providing supportive health promotion and management advice. This chapter provides information on incidence, risk factors, presenting problems, investigations, treatment, advice and care management of common adult health problems ranging from skin problems and infectious diseases, to sexual health problems and womens’ health problems. Sources of information and support for patients are identified. It complements the previous chapter, which provided information on the commonest and major long-term conditions.
