This chapter describes the anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of the cardiac conduction system and is assessment with the electrocardiograph. Management of conduction blocks with epicardial and permanent pacemakers and the treatment of arrhythmias with automatic implantable cardioverter/defibrillators is discussed. Finally, the perioperative management of implantable cardiac devices is described.
