Unintended pregnancy and requests for abortion are common. About 190 000 procedures are undertaken in England and Wales every year; one in three sexually active women in the UK will have an abortion in their lifetime, and about one-third of these women will have at least one subsequent abortion. This chapter covers clinical management and assessment of unwanted pregnancy, medical and surgical procedures, and follow-up.
