Most of the infections in pregnancy are caused by genital tract flora, and their effects on the mother and fetus depend on the gestation, underlying maternal condition, as well as inoculum and virulence of the offending organism. The chapter describes the fetal and maternal effects of infection, diagnosis, prevention, and the management of infections.
