This chapter situates the ethnographic material on organizational change evident in this particular hospital within a discussion of concepts of change and improvement in the wider health service. It addresses the managerialization of the health service in some depth. It pinpoints critical differences between organizational and cultural change in complex health services and speaks to the difficulty in social anthropology in identifying completed change, using the ethnographic material from the three wards studied.
