Strict maternal pre-pregnancy glycaemic control reduces the incidence of fetal malformations and anomalies in pregnancies complicated by diabetes

Tight maternal glycaemic control during labour and delivery may reduce neonatal hypoglycaemia

Current fetal monitoring techniques cannot reliably detect fetal compromise which may lead to premature delivery which can compound neonatal morbidity.
