A 25-year-old male presented with a 4-week history of right anterior shin pain. He was an office worker who had recently commenced running regularly in order to compete in the London Marathon for a charitable organization. The marathon was 3 months away. He had been a competitive long-distance runner as a teenager, but had led a sedentary lifestyle in recent years.
