A 24-year-old male competitive 800 m runner presented with a 6-week history of left posterior heel pain and swelling. The pain had started insidiously with no specific injury. The pain was now constant at mild to moderate intensity but significantly worse during and for a few hours after running. He had changed coaches 2 months previously and had modified his training programme to include more speed work.
