A 32-year-old man presented with a 6-month history of pain and swelling affecting both ankles and his left wrist. His past history included haemophilia A diagnosed at the age of 1 year after a bleeding episode from a cut lip. He had moderately severe disease with a baseline factor VIII level of 3%. At the age of 18, he was found to have acquired hepatitis C from contaminated blood products. At the age of 22 he was diagnosed with a large B-cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He underwent treatment with chemotherapy and an autologous bone marrow transplant and was currently in remission.
