It is clear that in Western cultures religious participation is declining, whilst interest in exploring spirituality is increasing. Links between these trends remain under-investigated, but research into their communal context is beginning to provide some answers. This chapter draws upon a range of research findings that explore the changing place of community in expressions of religion and spirituality.
