Chapter 7 focuses on fluid assessment and associated treatment for abnormally high or low fluid balance—which significantly influences the cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, and metabolic systems—and examines the anatomy and physiology of fluid balance, pathophysiological changes of fluid balance in acute care, assessment of fluid status, management of the patient with fluid excess, management of the patient with fluid deficit, and administration of intravenous fluids and blood products.
