Chapter 6 provides an overview of the gastrointestinal (GI) system, and explores the normal anatomy and physiology of the GI tract, the normal anatomy and physiology of accessory organs (liver, gall bladder and pancreas), the care and management of patients presenting with symptoms of the GI tract and associated organs, and the nutritional support of the patient in the acute care setting, including enteral and parenteral nutrition.
