Chapter 4 discusses neurological acute care, and includes discussion of normal physiology, physiological changes following illness and injury, the physiology of raised intracranial pressure and cerebral oedema, immediate assessment of neurological function, formal neurological assessment (Glasgow Coma Scale), and nursing care of the patient with neurological injury, including stroke, subarachnoid haemorrhage, mild brain injury, and seizures.
