Chapter 31 presents the current literature informing practice relating to nutritional assessment and intervention in children with cancer. An understanding of the epidemiology of cancer in childhood, in particular malignancies associated with a high nutrition risk, is key to identifying children who will benefit from nutritional intervention. An overview of the tools currently available for nutritional assessment in children and factors influencing their application in paediatric oncology is given. Finally the nutritional interventions available and a review of the limited data relating to their efficacy in children with cancer are considered.
