Specialist palliative care teams, in hospices, hospital and the community, now commonly care for those with non-cancer diagnoses including coronary heart disease, chronic lung disease, renal failure, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, dementia, Parkinson's disease, as well as those with cancer. The guidance provided in Chapter 25 is applicable to all older people with palliative care needs.
