Chapter 18 presents how damage leading to pressure ulceration is largely attributable to four extrinsic factors, usually acting together (Figure 18.4): Interface pressure (acting perpendicular to the tissue surface); shear (acting parallel to the tissue surface), friction (acting tangentially to the tissue surface) and moisture, which increases the effect of friction up to five-fold, and explores risk assessment and management, along with nutrition, wound management and cleaning, therapies, infections, myasis, surgical treatment, recurrance, and palliative care.
