Chapter 5 outlines the necessary steps in assessing a cancer patient prior to the initiation of treatment with head and neck radiotherapy, primary chemotherapy and adjuvant chemotherapy, and/or radiotherapy with haematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The overall goal of a pretreatment oral screening is to develop/complete a comprehensive oral care plan, which stabilizes or eliminates oral disease that could produce complications during these cancer treatments.
