This chapter will describe trauma scoring systems, the use of trauma databases, and some aspects of research in trauma. Some of the tools described can be used to predict outcome in trauma patients, and to compare trauma systems. Research can take many forms, and it is important to have an understanding of some of the terms used, such as audit, clinical trials, evidence-based guidelines, levels of evidence, quality of evidence, and grades of recommendations....
