This chapter discusses the imaging findings of patients with subacute combined degeneration of the spinal cord from B12 deficiency and from nitrous oxide exposure. It reviews briefly the history of this disorder, the biochemical pathogenesis of vitamin B12 deficiency, and its clinical manifestations. Imaging features specific to the condition including the T2 hyperintensity in the dorsal spinal columns, the associated laboratory findings, and the major differential conditions are highlighted.
