Energy medicine (EM) is defined as any modality in medicine, or complementary and alternative medicine, that works with the body’s underlying electromagnetic field. Pain and Rheumatologic patients with more severe symptoms are more likely to seek an energy medicine modality. Quantitative research moderately supports using energy medicine for sensory pain control and symptom relief. A multidisciplinary approach to pain can include energy medicine techniques if the patient’s belief system is aligned with EM techniques.
