Chapter 29 discusses opioids in the terminal phase, including a change in focus of care at this time, with the main emphasis being on the comfort of the patient, and that patients in the terminal phase are likely to have developed a physical dependence on opioids and are at risk of developing withdrawal symptoms if the opioid is suddenly discontinued.
