This chapter is dedicated to palliative orthopaedics, i.e. to situations where the emphasis is on treatment of symptoms, rather than on cure of the disease. The different sections have been designed to cover the treatment of pathological fractures in general, and then more specifically the treatment of malignancy involving the femur, the humerus, the pelvis and the spine. Readers are advised to consult a relevant orthopaedic textbook for further information about specific techniques.
