Multidisciplinary working. In order to deliver a first class breast service you require a functional multidisciplinary team (MDT) to weigh up all aspects of triple assessment in the diagnostic setting and to fully consider all treatment options. The chapter begins by outlining the core and extended membership of the MDT and its functions. Guidance is given about how to set-up a functional and robust MDT and the resources necessary to fulfil all of its functions. The chapter outlines the use of the Somerset database for real-time recording of decisions and gives readers an overview of the clinical governance issues involved; including auditing of outcomes, communication and operational policies.
