This chapter covers the common gastroenterological symptoms associated with pregnancy (e.g. constipation, gastro-oesophageal reflux, nausea, and the less common hyperemesis gravidarum). Common inflammatory bowel conditions (e.g. ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease) and their management in pregnancy are discussed, and drug interactions with breastfeeding are covered. Coeliac disease and associated risks to the pregnancy are covered, as well as bariatric procedures both pre and post pregnancy.
