Projects end according to plan if the goals are achieved, or the content of a project becomes part of routine procedure. In specific circumstances, advocacy projects can be set up for continuous policy/procedure development purposes. Irregular endings can occur at any time for several reasons and do not necessarily indicate failure. Persons working in advocacy projects are usually engaged and enthusiastic persons, driven by altruistic causes, a goal, or a conviction for purpose. By ending a project, it is important to debrief participants, share achievements, and harvest knowledge. Contrasting with the enthusiasm in developing and installing advocacy projects, the process of ending is less well described, although this may be a valuable source to learn for new projects. This chapter deals with ending, closing, harvesting, analysing and debriefing, and emphasizes that ending and closing is important in advocacy projects.
