Anne Merriman epitomizes the ideal of palliative care as pioneering and vocational. From over 40 years in Africa, her leadership in spearheading the organizations which are now setting the trend for palliative and end-of-life care delivery across that continent, as well as her passion that care be delivered in a timely, rigorous, and responsive way, comes across in the spirit of action vividly demonstrated in this chapter. Her experience in fundraising and challenging political stasis, together with a fundamental belief in the value of human life, support the argument that the only way forward is together-our similarities should outweigh our differences. Respect for the innate compassionate spirit within us can truly change the world.
