This chapter provides a brief summary of the literature on individual therapy with suicidal adolescents. The primary focus is on the treatment of adolescents who have attempted suicide. Therapy techniques specific to cognitive, emotional/affective, interpersonal, and intrapsychic factors are reviewed. Techniques from cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy, and interpersonal psychotherapy are described. An approach to psychoeducation regarding suicidality is also presented.
