Chapter 1 introduces the topic and its aim to be a practical resource for practitioners and trainees that provided down-to-earth, pragmatic information and guidance. We wished to produce a book to help practitioners grapple with the clinical and neuropsychological problems in the field whilst negotiating the legal labyrinths involved in issues such as competency, fitness to plead and stand trial, mental capacity, and mitigation.
